Most Anticipated July Book Releases

It’s almost July! When did that happen? While it’s not my favorite month since it means my birthday is over, it does mean LOTS OF NEW BOOKS! Let’s look at a few that look AMAZING!

Thoughts: She’s got to save the stable boy??? OMG yes, please!! Also…we need more royalty stable boy romances. I know that’s cliche or whatever…but I need more.

Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power (July 7)

Ever since Margot was born, it’s been just her and her mother. No answers to Margot’s questions about what came before. No history to hold on to. No relative to speak of. Just the two of them, stuck in their run-down apartment, struggling to get along.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust  (July 7)

Soraya thought she knew her place in the world, but when her choices lead to consequences she never imagined, she begins to question who she is and who she is becoming…human or demon. Princess or monster.

Thoughts: I LOVE stories with girls who are poisonous to the touch. I have no idea why but there’s a similar character in The Alchemist’s Daughter and I just love the concept. A dude touches you and you don’t want him too? BOOM, he’s dead. Yes, I know there is a bad side, but….I’m looking on the “bright” side lol.

Also there is a boy who understands her!!! Give me all of that!

Unravel the Dusk by Elizabeth Lim (July 7)

The thrilling sequel to SPIN THE DAWN, a magical series steeped in Chinese culture.

Thoughts: This cover is gorgeous and I need to get my ass in gear and read the first book because I have heard nothing but good things!

The Crow Rider by Kalyn Josephson (July 7)

Princess Thia, her allies, and her crow, Res, are planning a rebellion to defeat Queen Razel and Illucia once and for all. Thia must convince the neighboring kingdoms to come to her aid, and Res’s show of strength is the only thing that can help her.

But so many obstacles stand in her way. Res excels at his training, until he loses control of his magic, harming Thia in the process. She is also pursued by Prince Ericen, heir to the Illucian throne and the one person she can’t trust but can’t seem to stay away from.

As the rebel group prepares for war, Res’s magic grows more unstable. Thia has to decide if she can rely on herself and their bond enough to lead the rebellion and become the crow rider she was meant to be.

Thoughts: REBELLION!! I love a rebellion. This is also another series that I need to read the first book because I have heard only good things!

Loveless by Alice Oseman (July 9)

Thoughts: A FANFIC-OBSESSED ROMANTIC!! i DON’T NEED TO HEAR ANYMORE. But also…ACE-REP!! Oh and everyone has been yelling at me to read Heartstopper so with that and this, clearly I need to read lots of Alice Oseman.

Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Soloman (July 28)

Tomorrow…maybe she’s already fallen for him.

Thoughts: Ok, I was first put off by the title because I thought this was one of those books where you follow two people as they fall in and out of love over years and…I do not like those stories, but now that I’ve actually read the synopsis (lol), this sounds good. I love some good loathing to lovers. And since I know the author is Jewish, I’m hoping at least one of the characters is too. 🙂

The Year of Witching by Alexis Henderson (July 21)

Thoughts: I love creepy forbidden woods that might not be what everyone things. Also, I LOVE OLD DIARIES IN BOOKS (see Dear Haiti, Love Alaine), And witches??? I mean I know my birthday is soon, but you don’t have to give me everything I love. This cover is also GORGEOUS and spooky.

This is My America by Kim Johnson (July 28)

Thoughts: If you watched the video of Kim Johnson and didn’t want to read everything she’s ever written, I don’t know what to tell you. I also really like books about investigations and skeletons coming out and this has all of that!

The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig (July 14)

The only thing August Pfeiffer hates more than algebra is living in a vampire town. Located at a nexus of mystical energy fields, Fulton Heights is practically an electromagnet for supernatural drama. And when a mysterious (and annoyingly hot) vampire boy arrives with a cryptic warning, Auggie suddenly finds himself at the center of it. An ancient and terrible power is returning to the earthly realm, and somehow Auggie seems to be the only one who can stop it.

Thoughts: GAY VAMPIRES!! I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this and let me tell you, it is A DELIGHT! Yes, it’s scary and Auggie could definitely do with a nice vacation after all he goes through, but it’s also really fun.

I Kissed Alice by Anna Birch and Victoria Ying (July 28)

Rhodes and Iliana couldn’t be more different, but that’s not why they hate each other.

Hyper-gifted artist Rhodes has always excelled at Alabama’s Conservatory of the Arts despite a secret bout of creator’s block, while transfer student Iliana tries to outshine everyone with her intense, competitive work ethic. Since only one of them can get the coveted Capstone scholarship, the competition between them is fierce.

They both escape the pressure on a fanfic site where they are unknowingly collaborating on a graphic novel. And despite being worst enemies in real life, their anonymous online identities I-Kissed-Alice and Curious-in-Cheshire are starting to like each other…a lot. When the truth comes out, will they destroy each other’s future?

Thoughts: There is really nothing I love more than two people unknowingly working together on a fanfic site when they hate each other in real life. This is a newer trope I’ve seen a couple times and I’m all for it! Also…THERE ARE ILLUSTRATIONS! I’m a sucker for art.

The Voting Booth by Brandy Colbert (July 7)

Marva Sheridan was born ready for this day. She’s always been driven to make a difference in the world, and what better way than to vote in her first election?

Duke Crenshaw is do done with this election. He just wants to get voting over with so he can prepare for his band’s first paying gig tonight.
Only problem? Duke can’t vote.

When Marva sees Duke turned away from their polling place, she takes it upon herself to make sure his vote is counted. She hasn’t spent months doorbelling and registering voters just to see someone denied their right. And that’s how their whirlwind day begins, rushing from precinct to precinct, cutting school, waiting in endless lines, turned away time and again, trying to do one simple thing: vote. They may have started out as strangers, but as Duke and Marva team up to beat a rigged system (and find Marva’s missing cat), it’s clear that there’s more to their connection than a shared mission for democracy.

Romantic and triumphant, The Voting Booth is proof that you can’t sit around waiting for the world to change?but some things are just meant to be.

Thoughts: Romance and an important social issue equals a match made in heaven for me! There is also a cat or at least, a missing one. Everything I love!

More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn (July 21)

Growing up under his punk rocker dad’s spotlight, eighteen-year-old Luke Greenly knows fame and wants nothing to do with it. His real love isn’t in front of a crowd, it’s on the page. Hiding his gift and secretly hoarding songs in his bedroom at night, he prefers the anonymous comfort of the locally popular podcast he co-hosts with his outgoing and meddling, far-too-jealousy-inspiringly-happy-with-his-long-term-boyfriend twin brother, Cullen. But that’s not Luke’s only secret. He also has a major un-requited crush on music blogger, Vada Carsewell.

Vada’s got a five year plan: secure a job at the Loud Lizard to learn from local legend (and her mom’s boyfriend) Phil Josephs (check), take over Phil’s music blog (double check), get accepted into Berkeley’s prestigious music journalism program (check, check, check), manage Ann Arbor’s summer concert series and secure a Rolling Stone internship. Luke Greenly is most definitely NOT on the list. So what if his self-deprecating charm and out-of-this-world music knowledge makes her dizzy? Or his brother just released a bootleg recording of Luke singing about some mystery girl on their podcast and she really, really wishes it was her?

Thoughts: There are so many things to like about More Than Maybe! 1. it takes place in my state. 2. it has the best dad/stepdad EVER. 3. I’m on the blog tour and have been waiting to share my review for months since the release date was pushed back lol (review coming later this month). It’s also such a cute book!

All These Monsters by Amy Tintera (July 7)

Seventeen-year-old Clara is ready to fight back. Thoughts: Fighting monsters and abusive fathers?? Sign me up! And she joins a international monster-fighting squad! I mean, come on…it doesn’t get much cooler than that.

Faith: Taking Flight by Julie Murphy (July 7)

Faith Herbert is a pretty regular teen. When she’s not hanging out with her two best friends, Matt and Ches, she’s volunteering at the local animal shelter or obsessing over the long-running teen drama The Grove.

So far, her senior year has been spent trying to sort out her feelings for her maybe-crush Johnny and making plans to stay close to Grandma Lou after graduation. Of course, there’s also that small matter of recently discovering she can fly….

When the fictional world of The Grove crashes into Faith’s reality as the show relocates to her town, she can’t believe it when TV heroine Dakota Ash takes a romantic interest in her.

Thoughts: FAT QUEER SUPERHERO WHO CAN FLY!! Also, TV shows coming to her town sounds like my biggest dream and my worst nightmare lol.

Trouble the Saints by Alaya Dawn Johnson (July 21)

Thoughts: “she’s hired to use her knives to strike fear amongst its most dangerous denizens.” Yes, I would like all of that! This sounds SO GOOD! I also like that this takes place at the very beginnings of WWII because I like reading about that period, but it can be hard to find WWII-era books that aren’t Holocaust-related (which I cannot read).

Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters (July 14)

If I could have a fiddle made of Daddy’s bones, I’d play it. I’d learn all the secrets he kept.

Shady Grove inherited her father’s ability to call ghosts from the grave with his fiddle, but she also knows the fiddle’s tunes bring nothing but trouble and darkness.

But when her brother is accused of murder, she can’t let the dead keep their secrets.

In order to clear his name, she’s going to have to make those ghosts sing.

Family secrets, a gorgeously resonant LGBTQ love triangle, and just the right amount of creepiness make this young adult debut a haunting and hopeful story about facing everything that haunts us in the dark.

Thoughts: LGBTQ LOVE TRIANGLE! (sorry, I just needed to point that out) The fact that there is a magical/ghost-calling fiddle in this book makes me more excited than my poor heart can take. I also LIVE for family secret books. There is something so haunting and alluring to family secrets to me. (I like family gossip! Sue me.)

Running by Natalia Sylvester (July 14)

Thoughts: A daughter possible disagreeing with her politician father IN PUBLIC? Shoot it into my veins, please and thank you! I wish there were more books about teens or young adults realizing their parents aren’t who they thought they were.
